OpenChem - Video Tutorial

we've arrived 18 months ago we accidentally started a journey of .

learning and experimenting five months into that we started producing videos .

for fun and now here we are just over a year later with over 160 videos and a .

whole channel devoted to getting up close and technical with interesting .

reactions it's been a lot of fun but the circumstances which allowed us to do all .

this are changing we're leaving our secret island base and splitting up to .

go and live in different places as Bill Murray said we can do more damage that .

way and the ants will certainly be celebrating it's been an amazing 18 .

months and it's really exercised and challenged us chemistry does teach you .

world in a very special way and requires a lot of discipline both in terms of .

research theory and in practice as well what we've learned about the world is .

transferable and we'll be taking our wisdom attitude and creativity into our .

new spheres of life so don't worry our disappearance is .

simply an illusion we'll be applying the same chem player philosophy wherever we .

are in the meantime we'd like to leave something to help you we were only .

inspired to create our channel when we saw great videos by the likes of nerd .

rage Nile red UC 235 myst32yt and many others you can see our own subscription .

list on our channel page but making videos isn't easy we're not .

professionals in this either and we had to learn the hard way .

so we're leaving a template behind for anyone out there to use who wants a .

quick start and some help in creating their own homemade science videos we're .

calling it openchem it's pretty simple a few pieces of music some background .

graphics and an introduction sequence like ours plus lots of information in a .

step-by-step guide about how to set up film and then produce a video in a .

similar style to ours we also share details of the free software we've used .

to create every part of our productions and give you the links whether you use .

openchem exactly as we show or customize it to your own style is totally up to you .

we're not in control of the content anymore you are the only thing we .

politely ask is that you don't use the files for commercial or for profit .

purposes except for donations we never commercialized this channel in any way .

you can find the files and instructions at our Google Drive page the link is .

shown here and also appears in the description below .

if this gives someone a kickstart just like the great videos which in part are .

inspired us in the first place then it will have been worth it .

for the time being though it's goodbye liquids solvents acids and anything .

hazardous has been returned from whence it came but our equipment will be safely .

stored away and protected at some point in the future we will come back and we'll .

do this again the only thing we don't know is when it might be six months or .

it might be six years we might pop back from time to time with .

surprise and remind you that we're still alive .

we'll leave you with a suggestion go and learn something totally new something .

hard for the hell of it start at the start with the basics and do it properly .

dedicate yourself when it feels like your brain can't take any more realize .

that that feeling you have is just fear and confusion so prioritize and manage .

work out what to learn first .

and get things in order then get over it and keep going keep climbing that .

mental cliff and don't stop don't just learn the facts but over time learn the .

philosophy and wisdom of the subject and see what it teaches you about the world .

and don't forget to challenge ask why question research and experiment but .

don't be arrogant other people's experience knowledge and wisdom will .

always be your source and your source .

and ultimately all you will leave behind remember that the more you learn the .

more you'll find the less you know people who think they know a lot simply .

haven't learned enough .

here's a final montage of some of our work from the past year and a final .

sneaking glance of our tiny home lab as it goes away .

thank you for watching our channel stay safe .

stay tuned .
